Hi guys,
I wouldn’t be myself if I wouldn’t start a new part of my “travel posts” with saying something from me, something honest. In this place I want to tell you that Thailand, honestly never been on my travel bucket list, but when we were planning our Big Asian Adventure I wanted to go somewhere where Mat would like to go. This way I found out he always wanted to see Thailand and here we are.
1. Visa
We have stayed in Thailand less than 30 days so we didn’t need to pay for visa.
2. Hotels
As everywhere else, further from the centre cheaper it is, but think about it if you don’t like to spend money on taxi (Grab, Uber) or any other kind of public transport you maybe better to stay closer to the main area and this way save money. It may sound crazy but there are places in Bangkok, where taxi drivers don’t like to go and you may end up walking for hours.
3. Taxi
I’m not sure if many people know about it but a lot of Thai taxi driver has got a deal with for example: suit shops, jewellery shops, some tourist attractions. What the deal is? They are bringing tourists there and they are getting stamps for petrol. Sometimes you can get a taxi cheaper than the bus if you will let the taxi driver to take you to this kind of place. You don’t have to buy anything, you obviously can if you want to but there’s no pressure, you just need to spend a couple of mins in the shop. This way you can save money. We had a taxi from Patong to Phuket Bus Station for only 50 baths but he took us to two places (four stamps for a driver). Regular price for a bus is 30 baht/person or between 200-300 bahts for the taxi so as you can see we saved some money but it took way longer than it would on the bus. You just need to listen and ask if they don’t like to take you to this kind of place.
4. Weather
I know, European summer isn’t the best time to visit Thailand, Asia in general too, that’s what all tour guides will tell you. They will advise you to go from October to February, maybe March but never in summer. Why? Because of the rain. But I can tell you, we only had a few rainy days during our month in Thailand and honestly only one day was when it was literally all Sunday but that was only one day.
From the other side there are some benefits of going there in the low season: everything is cheaper! You can buy, those amazing tours you saw in the internet, sometimes for a half price! Isn’t that great?
So yes, it may rain but it can be also over 30 degrease and you won’t find so many tourists there at this time of the year. Almost no crowds, yeah!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I hope you will find here some useful information and feel free to ask questions, I’m always more than happy to talk to you guys.
